How has Obamacare affected health insurance in Maryland?
Maryland was an early adopter of Obamacare and immediately implemented Medicaid expansion. In addition, they were the first state exchange approved to be used. As a result, they have successfully reduced their uninsured rate from 12.9% to 7% in 2016, well below the national average. There is continued enrollment in the Maryland Medicaid program so this number may be fluctuate. (According to Gallup, the national average was 11.5% in 2016).
